# v0.1.12 → v0.2.0

> Upgrading Output.ai projects from v0.1.12 to v0.2.0. Covers dataset file format changes and deprecated workflow run endpoints.

This release ships two breaking changes that require attention:

1. **`@outputai/evals`** — dataset files use a new multi-case format; the old single-case format is no longer supported.
2. **`output-api`** — several workflow run routes are deprecated in favour of pinned-run equivalents. Old routes keep working until 2026-07-16 but emit `Deprecation` response headers.

## `@outputai/evals` — dataset file format

Old dataset files carried a top-level `name:` field and held a single case:

```yaml tests/datasets/stripe_blog.yml theme={null}
name: stripe_blog
input:
  topic: "Stripe the payment processor"
  requirements: "Include a link to https://stripe.com/en-gb/pricing"
last_output:
  output:
    title: "Stripe: The Modern Payment Processing Platform"
    word_count: 350
  executionTimeMs: 5000
ground_truth:
  notes: "Known good case"
  evals:
    length_of_output:
      min_length: 100
```

New files use the case name as a top-level YAML key, and can hold multiple cases:

```yaml tests/datasets/stripe_blog.yml theme={null}
stripe_blog:
  input:
    topic: "Stripe the payment processor"
    requirements: "Include a link to https://stripe.com/en-gb/pricing"
  last_output:
    output:
      title: "Stripe: The Modern Payment Processing Platform"
      word_count: 350
    executionTimeMs: 5000
  ground_truth:
    notes: "Known good case"
    evals:
      length_of_output:
        min_length: 100
stripe_blog_low_quality:
  input:
    topic: "Stripe the payment processor"
    requirements: "Include a link to https://stripe.com/en-gb/pricing"
  last_output:
    output:
      title: "Payment Processing"
      blog_post: "Payment processing is important for businesses."
      word_count: 12
    executionTimeMs: 1200
  ground_truth:
    notes: "Known low quality case"
    evals:
      length_of_output:
        min_length: 100
```

### Migration steps

For every `.yml` file under `tests/datasets/`:

1. Remove the top-level `name:` field.
2. Use the value of `name` as a new top-level YAML key.
3. Indent everything else by two spaces so it nests under that key.

Optionally collapse related cases into a single file by adding more top-level keys. Case names must be unique across every file in `tests/datasets/` — duplicates now throw instead of silently overwriting.

<Tip>
  The old format is no longer supported. Files that still have `name:` at the top will fail to load with an explicit error.
</Tip>

## `output-api` — deprecated workflow run endpoints

Three mutation endpoints are deprecated. They still respond, but should be migrated to pinned-run equivalents by 2026-07-16:

| Deprecated                     | Replacement                              |
| ------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------- |
| `PATCH /workflow/:id/stop`     | `PATCH /workflow/:id/runs/:rid/stop`     |
| `POST /workflow/:id/terminate` | `POST /workflow/:id/runs/:rid/terminate` |
| `POST /workflow/:id/reset`     | `POST /workflow/:id/runs/:rid/reset`     |

Pinned-run routes target a specific Temporal run by ID. You get the `runId` from `POST /workflow/run` or `POST /workflow/start` — both responses now include it.

### Migration steps

Replace each deprecated call with its pinned-run equivalent, passing the `runId` you captured when the workflow started:

```diff theme={null}
- await fetch(`/workflow/${workflowId}/stop`, { method: 'PATCH' })
+ await fetch(`/workflow/${workflowId}/runs/${runId}/stop`, { method: 'PATCH' })
- await fetch(`/workflow/${workflowId}/terminate`, { method: 'POST' })
+ await fetch(`/workflow/${workflowId}/runs/${runId}/terminate`, { method: 'POST' })
- await fetch(`/workflow/${workflowId}/reset`, { method: 'POST' })
+ await fetch(`/workflow/${workflowId}/runs/${runId}/reset`, { method: 'POST' })
```

If you're using the generated SDK client, regenerate it after upgrading. Every deprecated call now emits `Deprecation`, `Sunset`, and `Link` response headers you can alert on.

### Additive changes (no action required)

These are backwards-compatible response-shape additions — mentioned here so they don't surprise you when you regenerate clients:

* `POST /workflow/run` response now includes `runId`.
* `POST /workflow/start` response now includes `runId`.
* `PATCH /workflow/:id/stop` response is now `{ workflowId, runId }` (previously had no body).
* `POST /workflow/:id/terminate` response now includes `runId`.
* All status, result, and trace-log responses now include `runId`.

## Verify

After applying both migrations:

1. Bump the framework packages in your `package.json` to `0.2.0`.
2. Run `pnpm install` (or the equivalent for your package manager).
3. Run your type checker. The dataset format change surfaces at runtime rather than compile time, so also run whatever test suite exercises your evals.
4. Start your workers and hit a sample workflow; confirm responses include `runId`.
